How did I lose intelligence?

A week ago exactly I read a chapter of my book chapter 4 of "Working Smarter" easily and took good notes. And 8 days ago I read chapter 3 of the same book no problem with and took notes. Today I couldn't get through chapter 5. It seemed like a sentence on each page I couldn't understand after I tried going over it many times. It felt almost too challenging for me tonight and I felt stupid. How could this be? Did I really get dumber?

Always have a problem when making curry?

If it's too watery, take out the meat and boil it off until you have the right consistency, then add the meat back. If it's too dry just add a little boiling water to moisten it up a bit. Another way you could thicken it is to mix 1 tbsp of cornflour/cornstarch with 1tbsp of cold water in a cup then add this paste to your curry. Newly diagnosed Gluten intolerant?

All the health stores and some of the supermarkets sell gluten-free products, and all the health stores sell recipe books. But I find I get the best recipes on the internet. Just Google "gluten-free recipes" and you'll get millions. I found it easier to start with just eating protein (meat, fish etc) and vegetables, and gluten free pasta, and little by little added bread and other things. If you are a vegetarian is can be quite difficult, though. Good luck with it.

My hubby is a picky....?

Here's what I do, I pick a meal and make it. If the other family members don't want to eat it then they can fend for themselves. I'm not a short order cook, nor do I want to be. I do make out a weekly menu so I know what to buy at the grocery store and I stick with it. We keep things like frozen fish sticks,waffles,pancakes, things that the kids like and can be thrown together without actually cooking a whole other meal.(I don't mind doing that) You could try doing home made pizza's, each person could make their own personal pizza. Have lots of fresh veggies and lean meats to add. Or try a taco bar, again, have fresh veggies to add. Those are both fast and easy meals that can be made healthy.

Suggestion on how to organize my recipe magazines?

i have 4 years worth of Rachael Ray mags and at least a years worth of Food network mags. I have them stacked in my pantry but of course, that is a lot of mags and i need to get rid of some. I will probably get rid of the first year or two of them b/c i had cut a lot of them up to paste the recipes i liked on recipe cards. so, there's not much to those anymore. I don't mind having one stack that i use all the time since everything I cook for my family comes from those mags, but i think more than one stack is too much. I don't want to lose recipes though, but even if i organize and keep them somewhere else in the house, they won't be as accessible and they will become too many to even use since I don't want to go through stacks and stacks just to make a dinner. I have RR cookbooks etc too, but those have different recipes in them and honestly the ones in the mags are the best. any suggestions?

OK so im worried about my sons speech we had HV round a few weeks ago and she said she would have 2 come back in about 3 months to check his speech i was just wondering is vocab is normal for his age he can say mummy, daddy, nan-nan, he tries to say Jon, Pete and grandad but misses letters he can also say car, toe, mouth (without the th) two, baby, oh no, uh-oh, yeah, knee, head (without a D) bum, what (without a T) he says bitit for biscuit he can say bike, bye, hi, bear, water, ta, ball, fish but he says pish, pop, hat, button, peas, star without the s, wee wee, potty, wow tractor but he says it cacor, for ham he says mam, bus without s, bu for book, na-nah for night-night, yuv yoo for love you and a few more made up words and a lot of baby babble he understands a lot of what i say, he cant count yet just about all of his words are singular and doesn't say sentences do you think this is normal for a 30 month old? if not do you think i should ask for speech therapy?...sorry for all of the above im just a worried mummy lol x

Why is french so confusing?( please read)?

Why is the word order all mixed up?For example, "je suis qui moi". Why is "qui" in the middle and je" suis" at the beginning? Also other example would be, "tout a jour". Why is "a" in the middle. It would really help if someone can tell me the grammar rules for the French sentence structure and word order. It's hard for me to learn the language if I can't put the sentences together or the words in the right order.

Could my 4 year old be gifted?

He could be gifted or he could be academically motivated. Both types are high performers. I have known kids entering Kindergarten reading chapter books that don't qualify as gifted. Anyhow, just continue to provide him opportunities to grow in areas he is interested in. Doesn't sound as if he will struggle. Do keep in mind that gifted children do tend to lag behind in either social or emotional growth so don't overlook that.

How much should I reduce the liquid in my recipe if using quick-cooking barley?

I am making a barley and mushroom "risotto". it is in the vegetarian version of the joy of cooking cookbook. one adds one cup of pearl barley adding 2/3 cup of dry white wine and then 6 cups of vegetable stock, a little at a time because the recipe says that barley takes 45 minutes to an hour to cook. But I am using Quaker quick-cooking barley and the box says it cooks in about 15 minutes. So how much should I reduce the amount of vegetable stock (and wine if necessary) so my risotto comes out the right consistency? please answer asap if you know how to help me! i have 4 years worth of Rachael Ray mags and at least a years worth of Food network mags. I have them stacked in my pantry but of course, that is a lot of mags and i need to get rid of some. "I be at" is actually the only way it can be said while using the verb "be" in any of its tense forms. Let me explain what this means. Every verb has a tense that fits the past-continuing tense form. Lets use the words "run", "jump", and "play". In the past tense these would be ran, jumped, and played, while the past tense of be would be was. The current form would be running, jumping, playing, and being. These are verbs and thus have a form for all the tenses. So how would one use the word "be" in the sentence "I (blank) at the park"? One could say "I am always at the park" or "I can generally and consistently be located at the park" etc, but these are completely different sentences with different words, and are not using the verb "be". Someone prosed that the form of "be" in this sentence should be "am" thus rendering the sentence as "i am at the park". The problem is that this phrase doesnt treat the word "am" as a verb nor does it denote that one is always or usually at the park, but rather presently. Furthermore, am is not used as a verb by evidence that "am-ing" is not a word, nor can a persom "am",while someone CAN "be", and be-ing IS a word. 1,000 Vegan Recipes. What I like about it, the recipes don't require so many ingredients and has a good number of recipes for almost all occasions. Also, the directions are well put. I know that Khmer is NOT a direct translation of the english alphabet but I would like to find the best comparable letters. the letters are "RRGM" I know that in khmer there are letters that sound like "mo" "ra" and "ro" which are three I definetly need, but I have not been able to find something like the "G" sound. Teaching children to read: whole word vs phonics.....help!?

I'm having trouble understanding phonics. I understand how whole word methods work, and that they can cause advancement very young (see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1OdBcNAfIw). But I've also read that children can become confused by whole word when they're older as they are just memorising the shape of the word. My question is, how does a child learn the alphabet with phonics? Surely they just learn that each letter makes a sound. If you show them a "b" and make a "buh" noise, won't they recognise "b" to be "buh" and not the actual letter? I'm specifically referring to when teaching children from a very young age when they won't know any better, like in the above video.

People get sentenced to life in prison all the time or when they are 30 they get 65 years. But when I watch those prison shows like Lock Up on MSNBC, I never see any old people. there are lots of things you can do indoors on a rainy day. I play hide and seek with my boys, or we will build towers out of blocks then pretend to be big monsters and knock down the buildings. Cleaning up afterwards you can have a contest to see who gets all of their blocks put away first and there could be a good reward in it for him afterwards, like maybe apple sauce and graham crackers or a posicle. There are so many things that you can do that are fun....maybe a game of charades? I don't know your forte but there are lots of educational things you can do that are fun. And you could always ask him what he wants to do too.

Always have a problem when making curry?

If it's too watery, take out the meat and boil it off until you have the right consistency, then add the meat back. If it's too dry just add a little boiling water to moisten it up a bit. Another way you could thicken it is to mix 1 tbsp of cornflour/cornstarch with 1tbsp of cold water in a cup then add this paste to your curry. Me and my daughter play an A to Z game every night, where we go through the alphabet from A to Z and name something for each letter, depending on a category. Example; Girls names, we would go through naming girls names beginning with each letter. It is a great calming down game, but we have ran out of subjects and Categories to do! Alright, due to medical recommendations, I'm removing animal products from my diet. I'm not going the unhealthy meat substitute route where you eat a bunch of gross processed mock-meat foods. I've been eating mostly fruit and veggies (variety of deep leafy greens, etc), making sure to get in B12, taking a vitamin supplement and tofu for protein. What cookbooks and recipes would you recommend for a vegan? Also, any opinions on raw foods?

Terry, all you need to do is in a pot of water add your chicken, celery, carrots, onion (if you have), bay leaf, salt and pepper. That is the basics, I do not add squash, potato or spinach. I just bring it all to the boil, then lower the heat to medium high for about 20 minutes, then I lower to simmer. The meat will fall of the chicken, but before you turn everything off and plate, taste it for seasoning. If by chance you have a chicken or vegetable stock cube laying around add that also.

Why won't the rice paper wrappers brown when I fry them?

I fried them at 325 degrees for like 10 minutes and they didn't brown, one of the egg rolls split a little and the filling browned a lot but the papers didn't! what am I doing wrong? I read in my vietnamese cookbook that you need to put a little sugar in the water when softening the dry rice paper, for use and I read this after the mishap! but, is a sprig of sugar really going to make that big of a difference? please help!

Where can i find recipes that have historical background?

What is meant by historical background. All foods are historical in a way, and vary with what was available locally. something like pasta from Italy originated in china as noodles. Potatoes in europe were introduced from the Himalayas, chillies from south America were taken to India by the Portuguese traders so to make definitive recipes is not really viable. The thing that is historic is the staples eaten in different parts of the world which you can find out about ( staples are things like rice potatoes bread pasta/noodles sago semolina etc).

I have a problem.. but i am not able to figure out if its ocd..?

well..... i am doubtful if its ocd because i have all the symptoms of ocd except the fear of germs, which seems to be the most common one..... i have basically developed this fear of talking because of my fear of hurting people..... i record all my conversations so that i can listen to what i spoke and if i hadn't hurt anyone,you know, not said something wrong...... i literally record alllll my conversations..... and if my phone is out of space to record any more, then i panic and just shut my mouth..... i keep checking every one minute if my phone is recording..... i ask this friend of mine everyday if i said anything wrong..... i need reassurance that i didn't..... i keep checking on my family and friends as often as possible to make sure they are safe..... i always have these thoughts of violent things happening to my family and friends..... then i somehow try to contact the person to know if he/she is alrite..... by the way i record my phone conversations too..... all of them..... i keep asking my friends if they reached home safely..... then when i am talking, there's this part of my head telling me to tell really mean things and hurt my loved once though i know i would never want to do that..... its like i am only half present in the conversation..... and i count a lot too..... though i am trying to control it now..... i keep staring outside doors to make sure i don't close the door on my loved ones and insult them..... i have violent images popping up, not very often, but enough to disturb me..... pl help me out in figuring out what exactly is it that i am going through..... this problem has been only for around 1-1.5 years..... i never had problems like this before that..... well i am slowly getting over the aversion towards numbers and alphabets..... well there's this embarrasing thing..... there are images i have of inappropriately kissing the person in front of me though i DON"T want to.. its involuntary..... so i try and move out of that place..... it disturbs me soooo much..... do reply.....
