In Canada if the status of an offence changes (from summary to indictable) from the time the act is?

alleged to have occurred to the time one is charged and tried, which category is the offence considered to belong? Along the same lines, if the minimum or maximum length of sentence for an offence changes in the same time period (from "act" to charged and tried), which guidelines of sentence length do they follow? The one from when the crime was committed or from when the trial or charge occurs?
