Does this make sense?

There are many words for clothes: clothing, garments, attire, apparel, etc. They are used in different contexts. In conjunction with the word 'store', it's more common to say 'clothing store'. Otherwise, usually we say 'clothes'. 'Clothing' sounds a little more formal, so maybe that's why the word is being used when referring to a business. Also 'clothes store' is kind of hard to say with the TH S S all mashed up together.
